Joann closing Silverdale store, more WA locations amid nationwide cuts

The Joann fabric and crafts store in Silverdale is one of the 500 stores the fabric and crafts retail company has announced will close nationwide, though the company’s Port Orchard store was not on a list of closures.

Twenty-one Joann stores in Washington state are on the list of initial stores that Joann filed in court, among its roughly 850 stores. Those include the Silverdale location at 2886 NW Bucklin Hill Road, but not the Port Orchard location at 1029 Bethel Avenue, according to a report from Fast Company.

Other stores that reportedly will close in the greater Seattle area are in Kent, Everett, Renton, Shoreline, Seattle, Federal Way, Tukwila, Puyallup, Lynnwood, and Tacoma.

The closures are part of its ongoing Chapter 11 process and Joann has filed a motion in court to get the go-ahead to shutter the roughly 500 locations, a Joann spokesperson told USA TODAY.

“This was a very difficult decision to make, given the major impact we know it will have on our Team Members, our customers and all of the communities we serve,” Joann said in a statement to USA TODAY on Wednesday. “A careful analysis of store performance and future strategic fit for the Company determined which stores should remain operating as usual at this time.”

Two other corporate fabric and craft stores like Joann have locations in Silverdale, with Michael’s and Hobby Lobby.
