New vendors, T-shirts, tote bags kick off Dane Co. Farmers’ Market

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Saturday’s weather made the return of the Dane County Farmers’ Market that much better for visitors.

The weekly farmers’ market brings 92 vendors together. Last year, eight vendors retired allowing eight new vendors to bring their products to the Capitol Square this year.

In order for new vendors to join the market, they have to sign up for a bit of a wait.

“Our market does have a wait list to join to become a member and vend,” Assistant Market Manager Rachel Figueroa said. “Our wait list is growing year by year. Currently we are estimating three years of waiting on the wait list to become a vendor at our farmers market.

In addition to iconic Stella’s cheesy bread, honey, meats, flowers, fruits and vegetables, something new is being offered this year: Dane County Farmers’ Market T-shirts and tote bags.

“We really just wanted to design a bright and colorful design that had our logo,” Figueroa said.

If you missed the opening market or can’t wait until next Saturday, the Dane County Farmers’ Market also hosts a smaller market on Wednesdays in the 200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Saturday’s markets will be on the Square from 6:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. until Nov. 8. On July 12, the market will be held at Breese Stevens field from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. due to Art Fair on the Square.
