Pepco said it may take “multiple days” to restore power to hundreds of customers in D.C.’s West End neighborhood following a power outage Friday morning.
At least 300 customers in Northwest D.C. near 21st and M are affected as of Sunday, according to Pepco’s power outage tracker. The outage is due to an equipment issue, the company said in an update on Saturday afternoon.
But Ward 2 Council member Brooke Pinto said Friday the outage was “caused by an explosion and fire underground.”

Pepco added that it was exploring options of bringing additional power generation online to restore power to some customers sooner.
Affected customers can visit the West End Library during operating hours for warming and to charge their devices, the company said.
Customers can visit Pepco’s power outage page or text OUT to 48710 for updates.
